Abbey Road

A four level, new build house in central London, composed of layered planes and contrasting solids and voids. Materials include natural and reconstituted stones, a fine steel staircase and timber brise soleil to the rear elevation. Internally the entrance hall and staircase are deliberately compact and enclosed. They lead to the contrasting main living room; a dramatic double-height space with walls of glass facing the gardens and secondary stairs leading to a gallery and music room above. There are six bedrooms and bathrooms and parking for three cars. Underground is a 20m swimming pool and spa, seemingly a single body of water surrounding moat-like a conversation pit. The roofs are planted with sedum and an air-source heat pump and photovoltaic cells help reduce environmental impact.
